Wednesday 5th February, Annual General Meeting and Bingo Session!
Llanishen Village Hall, 7.30pm for 8pm start.
Don't forget to come to the AGM to celebrate the events of the 2024, what is planned for 2025 and to talk about what you would like the club to organise. All 2024 members are welcome even if you haven't yet renewed your subscription.
Come a bit earlier to get a drink and enjoy some hot food and drinks. We will provide baked potatoes with a variety of toppings and home-made cakes. After the meeting we will have a fun bingo session - lead by the inimitable Kat Stevens (nee Burton)!
The provisional agenda has been sent out in the latest Newsflash and the final agenda and papers will be sent out a week before the meeting.

Past Monthly Meetings 2024
Wednesday 24th January, A Ride Around England, William Reddaway
Between 10th May and 8th December 2013, William and his horse, Strider, travelled 2,674 miles to Four Corners of England, visiting 30 cathedrals on the way with no backup vehicle or crew. He raised money for 3 charities. This should be an interesting talk and may inspire some of us to do more hacking - if not quite that far!
Wednesday 7th February, AGM
The AGM at Llanishen Village Hall and catering was done by the Committee members who competed to bring the best soups or cakes! Attendance was down but there was a lot of discussion especially around ideas for our 50th Anniversary year.
Wednesday 13th March, Henry Carter from Optimal Equestrian Performance
Henry gave us a talk (on Zoom) about rider fitness and explained the differing requirements over specific disciplines. We then went on to have an interactive session where he demonstrated some key exercises which are useful for all riders.
Friday 12th April, Centaur Biomechanics, Principles of Correct Polework Exercises
This was a very successful talk and demonstration from Russell MacKechnie-Guire, Centaur Biomechanics on Polework exercises at Usk College. This was open to members of other riding clubs and was very well attended. We all came away with ideas on making polework safer (tailor distances to each individual horse and don’t overdo it), and how to adapt to how horses feel at the time. Georgia Wyllie and a very excited Max gave us a perfect example of how poles can be used to settle a horse down.
Wednesday 19th June, Equine Massage Therapy, Carole Ajinkya.Talk & Demo.
Carole Ajinkya gave a talk and demonstration of equine massage therapy on a lovely summer's eveing at Cledd-Y-Tan.
She talked about the various muscles and the skeleton and members had a chance to try some of the massage techniques and stretches that they can use on their own horses. A retired eventer was a willing guinea pig for some of us to have a go. The demo was followed by a quiz to check on how well we had been listening, with Carole donating some splendid team prizes.
Monthly Meeting, Wednesday 9th October, Blooming Jumps at the Pan Amazing Games, Hannah Matthews
There is much more to a cross-country fence than meets the eye! Hannah told us all about her adventures in Chile when asked to dress with flowers the Cross country fences for the Pan American Games.
50th Anniversary Dinner, Wednesday 6th November, Earlswood Village Hall
Pam Davidson and others organised the 50th Anniversary Meal in Earlswood Village Hall. We had invited all former members and many attended including some of the founder members. The main course was provided by the Huntsman Hotel but members provided a fantastic array of puddings. The menu was completed by a stunning golden coloured 50th Anniversary cake from Clare’s Home Bakes. Our patron, David Broome attended and it was a lovely opportunity to catch up with old friends and meet some new ones!
Monthly Meeting, Wednesday 27th November, Ride & Stride, St Arvans,
Christmas Shopping and Talk by Angela Wetherall, BHS National Manager for Wales.
Angela Wetherall, the new BHS manager for Wales, talked to us about the purposes of the BHS and there was a good discussion on how we could work together in some areas – particularly training.
